Was a little shocked to find that this was so large. Nice features though. Wish it had a remote. But happy, over all, with purchase.
This is not a problem, but something to be aware of if you are to buy it.Likes: plays MP3 CDs effortlessly, good on batteries, easy controls, pretty good soundImprovement required: radio reception is adequate, but could be better. I would prefer it just show the frequency and maybe the preset if you hit the display button. How much complication do you really need for a box that is designed for the worksite. The box is very large. There's nothing complicated about it which makes it very easy to operate. This box works well, with very simple controls. This is probably part of the weather wise design, as the AC parts are sealed, so shock hazard is very low. One slightly annoying thing is when using the presets, it shows "FM-01", "FM-02", etc for a few seconds before showing the frequency. It could be better, but it isn't a deal breaker.
However, MP3s show good title information. Finally, it runs great on batteries. Cumbersome DC converter cord. Some earlier reviews really complained about the radio reception. MP3 CDs play easily without any hassle. It isn't the most friendly display option. Display delay when changing presets. I found the reception to be OK, but not terrible. The included cord has an AC/DC converter box. That's good, but what is bad is the cord is now cumbersome.
I use this to teach water aerobics and so far it's doing well. Easy to carry--easy to use--great sound. I wish the AC adapter was smaller. My only snaffoo is when I walk in from the cold to the warm natatorium, the player can't read cds. Once the cds and the player adjust to the change in temperature, it plays fine.
I am always surprized by the quality of any Sony product I purchase. They do tend to cost alittle more than your average product, Sony does not make average products. This Radio/Boombox is as tough as they said it would be and the sound is as promised. Thanks again to Sony for another outstanding product.
I bought this boombox to take to the beach and on camping trips, and am amazed at how long the batteries last and how durable it has been. On one particularly rowdy guy's weekend canoeing down the Saco river in Maine, it fell out of my canoe and into the river for 10-15 seconds before I was able to retrieve it and the radio continued to play. On another camping trip, I accidentally left it outside of the tent during a night of torrential downpours. No problem for the radio and as soon as it dried out, the CD player started to work again.
